Though hit by high exhibiting prices and some big-name absences, annual watch and jewellery show Baselworld, run this year from March 21st-26th, still commands the attention of the luxury goods market. After a drop from around 2,000 exhibitors to around 600 in recent years, the future of the Swiss show seemed in doubt, and the absence this year of Swatch and all its sub-brands hasn’t done it any favours. However, so long as leading watch brands such as Zenith, Breitling, Porsche Design, Bell & Ross and Itay Noy put in an appearance, it seems that the show has a place. How long that continues, as the luxury watch market moves towards a limited distribution model, is another question.
Breitling Superocean Collection
Breitling has been manufacturing water resistant dive watches for over fifty years; regardless, the new Breitling Superocean Collection for Baselworld affords more diversity in sizes and gender. Alongside the added flexibility of sizes, the Breitling Superocean comprises of new dials, surface finishes and a spacious, steel case.
The surface is engraved and the dials have been transformed from hash marks to applied Arabic numerals, allowing them to stand out and be read without any difficulty under water. Additionally, the bezels have now shifted to what Breitling label ‘deposited varnish’ and beneath the 12 o’clock mark is the winged logo. Its comeback promises a modern, contemporary style for the ultimate deep-sea adventure and a ‘Superocean for every wrist’.

Bell & Ross Adopt Aircraft Inspiration
The BRO3-92 Bi Compass from Bell & Ross is inspired by the analog instrumentation of aircraft cockpits, whereby each instrument is a marker directing precision and managing performance.
The technical assets of the watch encompass water resistance at a depth of 100 metres, a steel pin buckle, robust black rubber straps secured further by ultra-resilient black synthetic fabric and a matt black dial. The BRO3-93 Bi Compass also comes with a 42mm, matt black ceramic case which blocks glaring reflections.
Simulating the analog instrumentation of aircraft cockpits, the two level dial reflects the hours in its centre, the minutes within the outer section and the seconds between the two. The distinctions are typified by a small green triangle demonstrating the hours, while the off-white hand conveys the seconds and minutes.
Present in over 75 countries, Bell & Ross is a leading global watch brand – discover more about their Baselworld line at https://www.bellross.com/.
Itay Noy Reconceives Time
Alternatively, a relatively new name to the market is Itay Noy, an independent watchmaker crafting approximately 150 pieces a year with original designs and components boasting the highest quality. In the latest collection for Baselworld, Reorder, the watch dial is arranged into two juxtaposing displays, as a result in the centre the traditional analog hands merge, and placed around them in a dispersed order are 12 digit shaped windows outlining the hours. The dual ordering forces the wearer to confront an unlikely, foreign way of perceiving time.
Discussing the unconventional nature of the watch, Gear Patrol asserted Reorder is for, ‘Someone who enjoys well made, hand-crafted, limited-edition timepieces…or even someone who simply enjoys an unconventional dial, of which this is a certainly a great example.’
