Luton Hoo Hotel Announces 2019 Artist in Residence Programme with Tim Scott Bolton

Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa, has announced details of its artist-in-residence programme, taking place throughout 2019.

The historic five-star hotel on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border will host four events, from March to October, with renowned landscape artist Tim Scott Bolton. The events will explore Tim’s Capability Brown-style landscape drawings in the 1,065 acre Brown-landscaped gardens of Luton Hoo, with a special insight into the historical context and artistic appreciation of the 18th century garden architect.

Tim Scott Bolton is a prominent landscape artist who has painted more than 60 Capability Brown landscapes and published a book of his paintings, ‘A Brush with Brown’ (2016), to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Brown’s birth. The artist’s work is held in many collections including Her Majesty the Queen’s, the National Trust and the private collection of Mrs J.Paul Getty.

Landscapes

Beginning on Monday 4 March, guests will enjoy an insightful introduction to the four-part programme at a Ladies Luncheon event, from 12pm to 3pm. Set in the stunning mansion house, guests will enjoy a delicious three-course lunch and Tim Scott Bolton will be the guest speaker for the event. During a talk about his artistic appreciation of Luton Hoo’s Capability Brown designed gardens, Tim will also explore the history of Capability Brown and his notable landscapes, providing an inspirational taster of what is to come over the year.

The next event takes place on Wednesday 29 May with Tim Scott Bolton leading a fascinating walking tour around the hotel’s beautiful gardens. Discover the inspiration behind many of Tim’s paintings, on a stroll through the vast grounds and soak up the grandeur and historical context of the luxury estate. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious three-course luncheon in the gardens with Tim who will impart knowledge and tips on sketching and landscape painting.

An evening dinner and talk with Tim on Friday 12 July will be third in the series of events, also with the opportunity to feast on a delectable menu curated by the Wernher Restaurant’s head chef, Ruth Hansom. Arrive at the grade I-listed hotel for a Champagne and canapé reception, before being seated for the gourmet dinner, complete with paired wines. An interesting Q&A session will follow, focusing on Tim Scott Bolton’s captivating travels and work.

Exhibition

Rounding up the artist-in-residence programme at Luton Hoo Hotel, guests are invited to a champagne exhibition of Tim Scott Bolton’s works, on Friday 25 October. Also an opportunity to celebrate International Artist’s Day, the fabulous event will include an exclusive exhibition of Tim’s works.

Tickets to the artist-in-residence events range from £20 to £95 per person.
