Contents of Count and Countess Martignone’s Properties up for Auction

September 14 sees the contents of Count and Countess Martignone Milanese and Genoese properties come under the hammer at Bonhams. 

An aristocratic family from Como whose history can be traced back to the 13th century, Count and Countess Martignone were well known for their legendary entertaining with leading figures in Italian society from prime ministers and politicians to Popes and even the last King of Italy, Umberto II.

Their love of art and antiques was also well known. They collected and sourced treasures from throughout the world, which were brought together as the spectacular contents of their Milanese apartment and villa in Pieve Ligure, positioned in the heart in the Italian Riviera.

The contents of these two properties include a wonderful selection of Italian and French furniture, European works of art and sculpture, old master paintings, English and Continental silver, ceramics, Asian works of art and garden statuary.

• An exhibition of sale highlights belonging to Countess Martignone will be on view at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street, London, between August 18- 22, 25-29, and September 1-5.
