Julien’s Auctions, the industry-leading Hollywood auction house, has announced the full catalog of over 500 marquee items celebrating the legendary beauty and style of the Golden Globe Award-winning trailblazer, “BOMBSHELL: THE RAQUEL WELCH COLLECTION” taking place Friday, April 12th live in Los Angeles and online at Julien’s Auctions.
The exclusive event was previously announced following the one-year anniversary of the death of the pop culture icon and one of Hollywood’s most famous sex symbols who became a pioneer of the strong female lead character from her roles in Fantastic Voyage, Hannie Caulder, Myra Breckinridge, The Three Musketeers, and One Million Years B.C., whose image of Raquel Welch wearing her iconic fur-and-hide bikini became a cultural phenomenon and one of the biggest pinup posters of all time.
Iconic
Costumes, awards, and memorabilia from Raquel Welch’s iconic films and television specials, as well as furniture, home décor, personal items, and more will dazzle the auction block including (with estimates):
A pair of Kenneth Jay Lane-designed silver-tone, faux pearl, and simulated diamond ear clips, worn by Raquel Welch as herself in the classic sitcom Seinfeld on the season 8, episode 22 titled The Summer of George, as well as during a cameo as “Mrs. Windham Vandermark” in the cult-classic film Legally Blonde ($300 – $500) (photo below – all image credits: Julien’s Auctions).
A turquoise and silver squash blossom necklace, worn by Raquel Welch to the June 23rd, 1970 New York City premiere of her film Myra Breckinridge and in one of her most iconic photos, taken during a 1970 photo shoot with celebrity photographer Terry O’Neill ($1,000 – $2,000) (seen on catalog cover photo at bottom).
Illusion
A light beige souffle nude illusion, fully-embellished, evening gown custom designed by Bob Mackie for Raquel Welch, photographed worn while performing at the Palais des Congrès de Paris, Paris, France, on February 4th, 1976 ($1,000 – $2,000) and a beaded and rhinestone fully-embellished gown with crisscross straps with an exposed back, designed by Bob Mackie for Raquel Welch photographed worn in a 1979 photoshoot session by photographer Harry Langdon ($2,000 – $3,000) (photo below).
Welch’s annotated original script for the 1970 cult classic film Myra Breckinridge. The 146-page script is stamped with the words “MYRA BRECKINRIDGE / SEPTEMBER 17TH, 1969 / CONFIDENTIAL – NOT TO BE REMOVED FROM 20TH CENTURY-FOX FILM CORP. LOT.” (photo below). Based on Gore Vidal’s controversial best-selling novel, the film adaptation of Myra Breckinridge starred Raquel Welch as the title character, a transgender woman, and co-starred Mae West, Farrah Fawcett, John Huston, and Rex Reed ($200 – $300).
Welch’s annotated script for the hit Broadway musical Woman of the Year, which marked her Broadway debut when Welch was a temporary replacement for the show’s leading lady Lauren Bacall in 1981 and took over the role full-time when Bacall departed the show the following year ($200 – $300) (photo below).
From her Beverly Crest Mansion, items such as an Art Deco revival mirrored headboard with bedside chests together with a Terry O’Neill-taken 1974 photo of Raquel Welch sitting on the bed in front ($800 – $1,200) (photo below credit Terry O’Neill) and a Mimi London queen-sized silvered metal tester bed with a padded headboard that was in Raquel Welch’s bedroom (each lot range: $800 – $1,200) and more join the previously announced items heading to auction such as Welch’s Golden Globe Award for her role in 1974’s The Three Musketeers film, diamond wedding rings, her fur bikini and star-spangled red, white, and blue sequined swimsuit costume worn on her 1974 television special Really, Raquel and her 2018 Mercedes-Benz SL 550 Convertible.
