Nathan Abrams, Professor in Film and lead director for the Centre for Film, Television and Screen Studies at Bangor University, and Robert P Kolker, film scholar and author of a number of books on film including on Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock, have co-authored a new book published by Faber & Faber on the legendary American filmmaker, Stanley Kubrick.
To mark the publication of Kubrick: An Odyssey, as well as the 25th anniversary of the director’s death, Nathan Abrams will be joined by Gordon Stainforth, assistant editor and Adam Unger, second assistant editor on one of Kubrick’s most well-known films The Shining at an event at Pontio, Bangor University’s Arts and Innovation Centre on Thursday, 7th March at 7pm. The book launch will be followed by a screening of The Shining (Extended Version).
The enigmatic and elusive filmmaker Stanley Kubrick has not been treated to a full-length biography in over twenty years. Kubrick: An Odyssey by Nathan Abrams and Robert P. Kolker fills that gap. It is based on access to the latest research, especially into his archive at the University of the Arts London, and other papers, as well as new interviews with family members and those who worked with him. It offers comprehensive and in-depth coverage of Kubrick’s personal, private, public, and working life.

Professor Abrams said, “The book grows out of years of intensive research that began when I started teaching Kubrick at Bangor University in 2007. It discusses not only the making of his films, but also those he wanted but failed to make like Burning Secret, Napoleon, Aryan Papers, and A.I. We also uncover what Kubrick was doing when he was not making films.
“This biography will puncture a few myths about this allegedly reclusive filmmaker, who created some of the most important works of art of the twentieth century.
