With The Hari Hotel in London’s Belgravia unveiling a new exhibition following the launch of a £10,000 prize for young artists, Arts & Collections takes a look at some of the hotels in and around London giving display space to rising talents
The Hari, Belgravia
The Hari is one of the first hotels in London to have launched an art prize (if not the first) with A Space for Art, and has revealed the 17 artists that have been shortlisted. Ahead of the awards ceremony on 17th November, the pieces are now being exhibited in the hotel’s public areas for all to see until February 2023. Following the exhibition, the artwork will be judged by seven judges that are highly respected in the art world: curators, art historians to artists themselves from organisations including White Cube Gallery and Artists Support Pledge. Two of the shortlisted artists will become The Hari’s artists in residence from 3rd- 31st January and The Hari will host an exhibition for them in the hotel’s public spaces over the dates 3rd February – 3rd March 2023. The winner will receive a career-changing cash prize of £10,000 which is the equivalent of the SKY Arts prizes.

11 Cadogan Gardens, Chelsea (London)

The Mayfair Townhouse (London)
From the people who brought you Cliveden House and Chewton Glen, The Mayfair Townhouse (seen top of page) is a high-end neighbourhood hotel with art at its core. Following an exciting partnership with Frieze London and Frieze Masters in 2021/2, art can also be enjoyed within the hotel, with Minda Dowling, a leading art specialist, curating unique and unusual pieces to bring each space to life. Take Clarita Brinkerhoff’s peacock sculpture for instance – the piece sits at 67 inches high and is made out of 25,000 Swarovski crystals.

The Lakes by Yoo (Lechlade, Cotswolds)
The Lakes by Yoo, an estate of luxury homes and short-term rental cabins and apartments set on the Lechlade Upon Thames, is currently establishing a cultural art park on its 850-acre estate. The Lygon Arms (Broadway, Cotswolds)
At The Lygon Arms, local artist Jeremy Houghton is the Artist in Residence in his home village of Broadway. This 600-year-old coaching inn has been a destination itself for centuries, attracting guests as varied as King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Features include The Lygon Bar & Grill for relaxed dining in the magnificent Great Hall, a wine bar and a luxurious spa. Houghton’s work is available to view in his studio inside the hotel. He will also be holding talks at The Lygon Arms covering many topics including Broadway’s art history and the story of the Lygon family, as well as taking tours of the village. Pop by and take a look. Jeremy will be working there at various times so guests might be lucky to see the artist at work.
